FAQ

What to Wear Skiing

Being correctly dressed with the appropriate protective clothing means that you
will be comfortable, warm and well protected from the cold on your skiing holiday. This protection comes in three layers of clothing called Base Layer, Middle Layer and Outer Layer. It is best to buy clothes that have synthetic fibres as they absorb moisture and so keep you warm. Natural fibers tend to retain moisture and so you will get cold faster. As well as wearing the correct layers, it is also important to keep your head, hands and feet warm and dry, as much of our body heat
escapes from there. Again, it is better to have synthetic fibres for those areas.

Base Layer

The Base Layer should consist of thermal underwear to draw the moisture away from
your body, and so keeping you warm and dry. Yes, I mean 'long john's' and a vest of a synthetic fabric.

Middle Layer

The Middle Layer is the insulating layer which keeps the heat in. It should be lightweight such as fleece. Polo necks are good for young beginners who do not sweat much.

Outer Layer

The Outer Layer must be breathable and weatherproof such as a good quality ski
jacket. This protects you from getting wet and at the same time keeps the warmth in without sweating.

Head

Most of your body heat escapes through your head, so it is important that you have a well fitted hat. If the weather is very cold a balaclava is useful as are chubes.

Hands

Gloves should be comfortable and well fitted for holding poles. Mittens are better for young children as they allow easy movement for fingers and so keep their hands warm.

Socks

Good stretchable fibre socks will keep the feet warm. Socks need to fit smoothly under ski boots.

Snow Boots

Snow Boots are essential for walking in the snow when not skiing. They keep your feet warm and dry.

Goggles

Goggles should be large enough to protect your eyes from wind, snow and sun. You can never tell what the weather is going to do. The sun can be strong and reflect off the snow from different directions. Goggles are a must.

Sun Cream and Lipbalm

Sun Cream and Lipbalm are vital as the sun and wind can damage your skin. Sun Cream should be applied to your face and also under your goggles. Always carry Sun Cream and Lipbalm with you while skiing.

Helmets

It is advisable that children wear helmets while skiing. Wearing helmets
while skiing is compulsory in many countries now.

If your ski clothes are comfortable, they will not restrict your movement and will keep you warm and dry.
You can then enjoy your skiing holiday.

Q. Why do I have to wear so many layers?

You can start with a cool sharp morning and end up with the sun

accessories such as socks, goggles, gloves and much more.

A. Please look at our Terms & Conditions and read Late Returns &
